The Green Knight
The children were really inspired by the Green Knight sculpture and classes used him as starting point to discuss the search for the Jabberwock. They had lots of ideas about who the knight was and why he would want to kill the Jabberwock:
“It’s a warrior”
“He doesn’t like wood – he likes to chop it up”
“The Jabberwocky needs to make a fire to eat people”
“He’s clearing the area to try and find the Jabberwocky’s lair”
“The spirits that are stuck in the trees have told him to kill the Jabberwocky”
“If he clears the wood the Jabberwocky will have nowhere to hide”
“He’s a kind man, big and brave”
“He’s come to fight the Jabberwocky to protect everybody”
“The Jabberwocky has got sharp claws”
“His eyes would be red like fire”
“I’d feel frightened if I was coming to kill the Jabberwocky”
“I’d feel excited”
The children were so caught up by the idea of the Jabberwock that when visiting the 'facilities' at the end of the day i was asked "Is Jabberwocky in the toilet?”!
I'm really looking forward to being in school next week and seeing how their ideas have developed through their work with Caroline. I shall be documenting some of the workshops and hopefully getting more students involved with filming and interviewing.
