Dramatic changes in the wood! Posted by Terry

If (like me) you go down to the woods today (or in my case last Tuesday) You'll be in for a big surprise (or in my case gobsmacked!)
The woodmen apparently started on Monday and cleared the undergrowth from around the trail area. It was rather more than I expected and it took a while to get my bearings and find where the trail was. At first I was dismayed at the loss of character and adventure but later I accepted that it was, perhaps, for the best. The open space will make it easier and safer for pupils to work in the wood. Most of the roots are undisturbed so it should grow back next year - though not until after the project's end date so a lot of extra work is needed to define the trail and recreate the closeness and sense of discovery that I envisaged. I'm posting some before and after photos to show the changes.
I really enjoyed the trip to Forbidden Corner and I'll be looking for opportunities to use gargoyles and snakes in the trees - and as for that wonderful Green Giant................
